Sponsored by the Columbia Heights Music Boosters, this year’s theme is “Celebrating Black History Through the Arts.” “This show will celebrate the spirit of African culture and show how it has survived to influence American music and literature,” said Columbia Academy Music Education Teacher Todd Boyd.
Performers representing their middle school and high school band, choir, and theater departments will present selections representing the contributions of African and African Americans to the rich fabric of American culture. Cost to attend is $10 per person, which includes a pasta dinner, student art gallery and performances by choir, band and theater students. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Dinner will begin at 5:30 pm. The student art gallery and silent auction will be open 5:30-7 pm and student music performances will begin at 7 pm. The Sister City arts contest winner will be announced at 6:30 pm. All proceeds support CHPS art education.
