Manga Workshop, Wednesdays, July 15, 22, and 29, 2-3 pm: Manga means visual entertainment. It is a Japanese form of visual storytelling that dates back hundreds of years. This workshop will introduce the history of Manga, the difference between Eastern and Western comics, and storytelling methods and structure. Participants will learn basic drawing to sequential narrative layout while making their own Manga. For ages 13-18. Registration required. Must attend all sessions. Supplies needed: pencil, pen, and paper. This program is made available through the 2020 Minnesota Artist Initiative Grant received by Dennis Lo and he is offering the workshop for free as part of his grant project.
Zombie Apocalypse Engineer Camp, Monday-Thursday, July 6-9, 1-2:30 pm: In this virtual camp, participants will find themselves in a Zombie Apocalypse and need to invent things each day to help survive while waiting for a vaccine. Student kits will be delivered to the library for parents to pick up prior to class. Students need to provide: paper, scissors, ruler, glue, tape, pencil, markers and other coloring materials, and a tablet or laptop. A parent or responsible adult is requested to be on-hand at the start of each class to help with any technical difficulties. Kids will need a workspace that can get messy and access to a sink. Younger kids may require more supervision.
