Kolman & Pryor Gallery presents a performance art, painting, and technology installation by its first Project Space grant recipient, James Holmberg. "Absence" includes six canvases that Holmberg painted, scraped off, washed with mineral spirits, and painted again 12 times, while he recorded the process on video. Each canvas is accompanied by a QR code, allowing viewers to use their smartphones to access a time-lapse video of the painting process. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board will offer free virtual gardening and cooking classes this summer for ages 18 and up from its Creekview Recreation Center. Courtney Tchida with the Minnesota Horticulture Society will share gardening tips and plans for the early, middle, and late parts of the season. HeightsNext presents the first annual Art in the Park festival, taking place at Kordiak Park, 1845 49th Ave NE on Saturday, Sept. 11, 10 am-6 pm featuring dozens of local artists, performers, and vendors. Columbia Heights' first art festival will take place Saturday, Sept. 11, 10 am-6 pm at Kordiak Park, 1845 49th Avenue NE. The event will include 50 artists, ranging from painters to woodturners. A performance area will feature a singer/songwriter, tap dancers and bellydancers. Food trucks will be on hand, and there will be an arts and crafts area for kids. Admission is free. NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) offers a free online educational course that helps families and friends learn about mental illnesses, the brain, treatment, and resources to help a loved one living with a mental illness.
