Art and Science on the River: Buckthorn
Saturday, March 8, 10 am-12:30 pm, Mississippi Watershed Management Organization, 2522 Marshall St NE. Gather around a fire to make buckthorn charcoal from buckthorn branches harvested from the banks of the Mississippi River. Sip hot beverages while learning about buckthorn and the river from ecologist Alex Roth. Artist and Friends of the Mississippi River volunteer Kimberly Boustead will show participants how to draw with buckthorn charcoal and give some options for drawing projects. Broken Clock Brewing Cooperative, 1712 Marshall St. NE, Suite 100, will host a celebration of International Women's Day, Saturday, March 8. Head to the St. Anthony Community Center for a luncheon catered from Culver's and then listen to the St. Anthony High School choir. Lunch includes a pot roast sandwich, mashed potatoes, coleslaw and a dish of custard. Coffee and water will be provided. The cost of the meal and beverages is $15 per person. Potters create handcrafted bowls; Northeast restaurants provide soup/bread; you donate what you can and keep your bowl as a reminder of hunger in the community; proceeds go to local food shelves.
