Columbia Heights Lions hygiene drive
Friday, Aug. 25, 2-5 pm in the back lot of Murzyn Hall, 530 Mill St. NE. Items needed include feminine products, deodorant, toothbrushes and paste, shampoo, soap, etc. All items will be delivered to Columbia Heights High School for distribution within the school district. Artist Chris Rackley is a self-proclaimed "mall brat." On days when not in school, Rackley spent his time at the mall sketching, reading, and exploring. In an exhibit at Kohlman & Reeb, Rackley uses drawings, sculptures and an interactive video to explore his memories of a shopping mall in Duluth, Ga. Northeast United Methodist Church will host a family pop-up Pride fest for kids and families in the area Saturday, Aug. 26, 10 am-12 pm at Windom Park, 2251 Hayes St. NE. Community members are invited to attend a community picnic at the new home of Southern Anoka Community Assistance (SACA Food Shelf), hosted in partnership with Northeast Bank. Compassionate Ocean Zen Center, 652 17th Ave. NE, will hold an open house on Saturday, Sept. 9, 1-3 pm. Tour the Zen Center, learn about their programs, meet guiding teachers, enjoy refreshments and attend a short introductory presentation at 2 pm.
