Professional wrestling at Murzyn Hall
The Columbia Heights Lions will host professional wrestling at Murzyn Hall, 530 Mill St NE, Saturday, Feb. 11. Live MIW action will feature fan-favorite El Bano vs. CWIII in a Lion's Open-Weight Championship match. Doors open at 6 pm and bell time is 7 pm. Tickets $10 at the door. Lions Cash Bar.

Welcome back the herons
Great blue herons return to their rookery on the Mississippi River toward the end of March. Join Ranger Will at Marshall Terrace Park, 2740 Marshall St. NE, Saturday, March 18, 11 am-1 pm. Watch the herons rebuild nests and do a little flirting. You may see the resident peregrine falcons fly over, as well as migrating ducks such buffleheads and goldeneye. Join Southern Anoka Community Assistance (SACA) at their 11th annual "Hops for Hunger" fundraiser Friday, March 24, 6-9 pm at Quincy Hall, 1325 Quincy St. NE. Sample brews from area breweries and help fight hunger. Tickets are $50 in advance, $60 at the door. One ticket will provide food for a family of five for a month. Earth Day 5K Bee Run/Walk/River Clean Up
The Great River Coalition will hold its 8th annual Earth Day 5K Bee Run/Walk/River Cleanup at Boom Island Park in Minneapolis on Saturday, April 22, 9 am-12 pm. The event features a family- and dog-friendly fun run/walk, river cleanup and Earth Day festivities to protect pollinators and their habitat. The Minnesota Sinfonia under the direction of Jay Fishman will present a free concert Saturday, April 22, 2 pm, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1621 University Ave. NE. The concert will feature Gao Hong, who will perform Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" with improvised variations on the Chinese pipa, a stringed instrument. Also on the program is Beethoven's Second Symphony and a work by South American composer José Nuñez Garcia. Families with children are encouraged to attend.

Father Hennepin Park celebration
The re-do of Father Hennepin Park is finished, and the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board plans to celebrate with a concert on Tuesday, July 11, 6:45 pm. MPRB representatives will give brief remarks and host a ceremonial ribbon cutting before the first Music in the Parks concert on the new stage. Zen Center open house
Compassionate Ocean Zen Center, 652 17th Ave. NE, will hold an open house on Saturday, Sept. 9, 1-3 pm. Tour the Zen Center, learn about their programs, meet guiding teachers, enjoy refreshments and attend a short introductory presentation at 2 pm. Compassionate Ocean offers opportunities for meditation practice, weekly talks and classes on Buddhist teachings. Four times a year they offer programs in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).
