Columbia Heights Library 90th anniversary open house and photo exhibit
Columbia Heights Public Library, 3939 Central Ave. NE, will celebrate its 90th anniversary with an open house, Saturday, Dec. 1, 11 am-4 pm. The event will feature live 1920s-era music with the band “FlipSide,” refreshments, children’s activities, and a memorabilia display with collectibles and ephemera from each of the library’s decades of service. The 90th anniversary photo exhibit, a collaboration with the Northeaster Newspaper, will debut at this event.

Waterways and Otterways community event
There will be a community event--with a puppet show and community mural--to experience the “Waterways and Otterways” exhibit, a collection of river otter paintings by local artist Kat Corrigan, Saturday, Jan. 12, 11 am-2pm, at the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization Stormwater Park and Learning Center.

Classics in Poetry: Gerard Manly Hopkins
Catholic Eldercare will host a free presentation on Monday, Feb. 4, 1:30-3 pm at the MainStreet Lodge, 909 Main St. NE. Born in 1844 near London, Gerard Manly Hopkins was deeply religious. He converted to Catholicism and was ordained a Jesuit priest in 1877. He spent much of his career teaching. In 1878, he became Professor of Greek and Latin at the University of Dublin.
