The Evolution of Music: Past, Present and Future. Wednesday, May 7, 2:30-4: pm. From the ’50s to present day, music has been ever-changing – whether it’s faded away, crossed over or fused past and present into new styles. Join COMPAS Teaching Artist Soli Hughes with song, history discussions and music participation. Learn inside details about the Beatles, record empires and their influences, changes in music technology, how songs got their names and much more. Collaborator: COMPAS. Funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
Fix-It Hub: Tuesday, May 13, 4-7 pm.Work with a friendly, skilled volunteer to fix your broken household stuff, gain confidence and new repair skills and incorporate sustainability into your life. This event is family friendly. Cosponsored with Hennepin County Environment and Energy.
Trails & Rails: Exploring the Mississippi River and Recreation Area by Train: Monday, May 19, 6:30-7:30 pm. National Park Service volunteer Marladene Mohr will discuss her experiences with Trails & Rails, a collaborative program of Amtrak and the National Park Service. Mohr serves as a guide on the Empire Builder route which travels through the Driftless region of southeastern Minnesota and southwestern Wisconsin. Using slides, she will highlight several natural and historical features of the route, including migratory bird route, and sandhill crane populations and habitat.
