City of Minneapolis Small Business Consultations: A representative from the City of Minneapolis will meet with Minneapolis-based business owners to answer your permitting, financing and licensing questions, and give advice about business plans and mentoring. No appointment necessary. Partner: City of Minneapolis City Coordinator’s Office. Monthly, every first Tuesday, 3-5 pm.
English Conversation Circle: Non-native English speakers: Practice your English and make new friends in an informal, volunteer-led setting, and learn about the library, too. Every Thursday, 5-6:30 pm.

Crafty Minnesota: Kumihimo Braiding: For adults. Kumihimo is a Japanese art form of braiding that was used to lace up protective armor. Learn how to create the intricate braid and use the art of Kumihimo to create the perfect accessory. Materials provided. Collaborator: Textile Center. Brodini Comedy Magic: Magician Graylyn Morris will raise spirits and test kids’ powers of concentration as he manipulates ropes, scarves, balls and other magician’s props in a perplexing “now you see it, now you don’t” performance. The Voices of Hmong Men through Poetry: Join them to celebrate the poetry of two Hmong men, Pos Moua and Soul Vang, with a reading and conversation with Mai Neng Moua. Pos will read from his new book, “Karst Mountains Will Bloom: The Collected Poems of Pos Moua.” Soul will share poems from his first chapbook, “To Live Here” (Imaginary Friend Press, 2014). After the reading, the writers will converse with local writer Mai Neng Moua about what it means to be a Hmong/Hmong American writer. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Master Gardener: Kokedama: Make a Kokedama, a plant growing in a ball of soil encased in moss secured by twine, string or wire that can be hung in a window or placed on a tray or dish. It is a Japanese term, “Koke” meaning moss and “dama” meaning ball and is in the Bonsai tradition of creating artistic forms with plants. Bring to class a plant, 4” pot or smaller, ideally a foliage plant that doesn’t need full sun such as ivy, pothos, spider plant, fern, or staghorn fern.
