Girls on the Run Twin Cities
Registration is open for Girls on the Run Twin Cities (GOTR), a youth development program offered both virtually, in-person, and a hybrid model during the Spring 2021 season. All girls in grades 3-8 are invited. Practices begin mid-April.
Participants will spend eight weeks preparing for a 5K run/walk event while learning about topics like using your voice, setting boundaries, empathy, community service, and more. Throughout the season, volunteer coaches will lead each group of 8-15 girls in games and lessons designed to invite girls to engage critically with the world around them. The season culminates in a 5K run/walk celebration the weekend of June 5-6, which is open to the public.
Many GOTR teams are school-based. GOTR is also offering “Community Zoom Teams,” fully virtual options open to girls from anywhere in Minnesota. GOTR is committed to being fully accessible and inclusive.
To meet community needs during the economic downturn, fees have been decreased; program fees are supplemented by funds from individual donors, grants, and corporate partners. The cost for families who can pay is $125. Assistance is available. GOTR will also provide running shoes, pants, and sports hijabs to any participant who needs them.
Space is limited. Early registration is invited at gotrtwincities.org.
