Comments on MPCA Xcel Riverside permit wanted
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is seeking comments, through Feb. 27, on plans to reissue a permit for Xcel Energy’s Riverside generating plant, at 3100 Marshall St. NE.
Xcel’s plant is in an area that meets EPA-defined criteria for an environmental justice area because more than 40% of people who live there are part of a low-income household. The MPCA is currently in the process of reissuing Riverside’s air quality permit. The reissued permit will include a number of changes including a major amendment that relates mainly to switching from coal to gas.
If residents or community groups would like to know more about this proposal, they can contact Joe Miller at the MPCA, firstname.lastname@example.org or 651-757-2570. Info on environmental justice: pca.state.mn.us/about-mpca/mpca-and-environmental-justice.
