Social Media: Finding Authenticity: Tuesday, Oct. 8, 5:30-7 pm. Gracious or flip? Funny or refined? Curious or cool? Social media choices can go awry or be wildly effective. Even if you know the why (the strategy) and the what (the content) for your business’ social channels, how do you know the how (the tone)? The most effective social media channels find a following through personality, and that only comes across through voice. Through case studies, exercises, and examples, explore the voices an organization might take on, and how to go about determining the best fit for yours.
Mayor’s Monarch Pledge: Seed Paper and Citizen Science: Thursday, Oct. 17, 5:30-7 pm. Learn about ways you can assist scientists in their research related to Monarch butterflies, eees, and more. Participants will also make their own native plant seed paper. Mayors and other heads of local and tribal government are taking action to help save the monarch butterfly, an iconic species whose eastern populations have declined by 90% and western populations by 99% in recent years.
Puzzle Contest: Saturday, Nov. 9, 10 am-12 pm. Register in teams of two to four people for a puzzle contest at the library. Complete a 500-piece puzzle in the time allotted to be eligible for the prize drawing and bragging rights. Brought to you by the Friends of the Columbia Heights Library. This event is geared toward adults, but families are welcome. Space is limited and registration is required.
