Join the Waite Park Community Council and Audubon Neighborhood Association on Saturday, Oct. 5, to explore Deming Heights Park (Norwegian Hill) with a Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board naturalist. Responding to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Piotr Szyhalski began drawing Labor Camp Reports once again. Much like the COVID-19: Labor Camp Report series from 2020, this new and ongoing body of work serves as a way of witnessing and recording the experience of “extreme historical phenomenon” unfolding in real time. As part of Fire Prevention Week, St. Anthony Fire Dept. will hold an open house Saturday, Oct. 5, 1-4 pm, at the department's garage at 3505 Silver Lake Rd. Firefighters will demonstrate a live burn and allow visitors to use a firehose and get a close-up look at the fire equipment. Sparky the Firedog will be there, and lunch will be served. Residents will also have a chance to recycle used home fire extinguishers.
