Pull invasive plants on Nicollet Island
Join Friends of the Mississippi River Sunday, May 18, 9-11 am, as they pull invasive plants such as garlic mustard and dame's rocket from the woodland. As time allows, volunteers may also tend the demonstration planter boxes that provide park users examples of native prairie plantings and give people ideas of what might provide good habitat in their own neighborhoods. Join HeightsNEXT for their Annual Fall Clean-Up Saturday, Oct. 11, 9 am, Columbia Heights Public Library, 3939 Central Ave. NE. Gather at the to pick up safety vests and garbage bags. Then, get your street/park assignments for all volunteers. (Park assignments are made for families with young children who participate.) Red Cross Community Blood Drive
The Pritzker Hageman Law Firm will partner with the American Red Cross to host a community blood drive at its Northeast Minneapolis office, 100 University Ave. SE, Monday, Dec. 8, 10 am-6 pm. The Red Cross bloodmobile will be parked in the firm's lot for easy access. Appointments can be made at pritzlaw.us/donateblood. Days for Girls Sew-a-thon
The Minneapolis City of Lakes Rotary Club will host a Days for Girls Sew-a-thon at Northeast United Methodist Church, 2510 Cleveland St. NE, Saturday, Feb. 28, 9-11 am. The volunteers will be making feminine hygiene kits for girls in developing countries. The completed kits will be distributed by various volunteer organizations to girls in developing countries so they can continue to stay in school and have choices in their lives.
