Arts District Speakeasy
The Northeast Minneapolis Arts District’s annual Speakeasy is Friday, Nov. 8, 5-10 pm, Saturday, Nov. 9, noon-8 pm and Sunday, Nov. 10, noon-5 pm, coinciding with the Fall Open Studios – Open Casket event. It will be in the lower level of the Casket Arts Building, mirroring the often-hidden secret hideaways used for prohibition-era alcohol consumption. Tommies Tonight, the talent show that helps pay for Edison student activities, will be presented Thursday, Nov. 14. at Thomas Edison High School, 700 22nd Ave. NE. 5 pm: student social and talent show; 6 pm: doors open and Cafe Cairo food truck arrives; 7 pm: Barb, Everyone’s Favorite Neighbor, welcomes Nur-D to perform. International Holiday Festival
The Ukrainian American Community Center (UACC), 301 Main St. NE, will host an International Holiday Festival Sunday, Dec. 1, 11:30 am-4:30 pm. Enjoy world folk dances, a bake sale, folk art and a crafts and gift sale. A Ukrainian ethnic luncheon will be available for purchase. Tickets: Adults, $10; Children (6-12 years), $5; under 6, free. It's a benefit for UACC, which provides many services to newly arrived Ukrainians and supports humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will roll into the neighborhood Thursday, Dec. 12. In its 26th year of operation, the train will stop at 37th and Stinson Blvd. approximately 8:15-8:45 pm. The Lone Bellow and Tiera Kennedy are scheduled to perform. The train raises money for food banks in its areas of operation; East Side Neighborhood Services will be the beneficiary.

Hops for Hunger, Southern Anoka Community Assistance’s annual fundraiser, is Friday, March 21, 6-9 pm at Quincy Hall, 1325 Quincy St. NE. This annual celebration of local beer features 40+ breweries, cideries, and meaderies, a beer wall, raffle prizes, and a fun silent auction. Plus a new VIP experience. Mel Hart Scholarship fundraiser
Mel Hart graduated from St. Anthony Village High School in 1963. Tragically, he was killed in action on May 4, 1966, while serving his country. In honor of Mel's memory and achievements, a scholarship bearing his name was established at St. Anthony High School. Steele & Hops, 2800 39th Ave. NE, will host a breakfast Saturday, April 5, 9-11 am. Proceeds will go towards scholarships for a boy and girl. The cost of the breakfast buffet will be $15.

Print the Love, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Minneapolis, will hold a Portrait Pop-up fundraiser Thursday, April 10, 2:30-6:30 pm at 2303 Kennedy St. NE, #501. For $75, you can have a portrait of you, your family or your pet taken by one of five volunteer photographers. The Ukrainian American Community Center, 301 Main St. NE, has begun its Lenten annual fish fries. For $15, you get fish, pierogies, French fries, cole slaw.
