Caregiver Support Group, the first and third Friday of the month, 10-11:30 am, get ideas for what to do in difficult situations, learn from other caregivers, and be in a room with people who can identify with challenges and rewards of being a caregiver. NE Day Spot, every Friday, 10 am-2pm, a safe, engaging, and fun place for the person you’re caring for so you can take a break and get some respite. At NE Day Spot, people with early to moderate memory loss and other health conditions make new friends, exercise their bodies, and engage their minds. Reimagining Aging Book Discussion, at Pierre Bottineau Library, 55 Broadway St. NE, Saturdays, 9-10:30 am, the Saturday of the month. Join a discussion of engaging and enlightening books about aging and what it means to live a vital life today. The books: Jan. 11, “Being Mortal” by Atul Gawande; Feb. 8, “On the Brink of Everything” by Parker Palmer; and March 14, “You Learn by Living” by Eleanor Roosevelt. Midday Music Maker Volunteer, each Friday, 12:45-1:15 pm. Volunteers provide a live music experience at our intergenerational lunch break for young learners, young adults, and people experiencing memory loss, and make a positive impact on the community’s health. All musicians (instrumentalists and vocalists) or musical groups that can perform proficiently to all age groups and have a desire to create a joyful experience in the community are encouraged to apply. All applicants must submit a sample of a musical performance and/or references. All forms of musical performance are welcome but lyrics must be appropriate for young learners and people experiencing memory loss. Info: VitalLiving@esns.org or 612-787-4104.
Northeast Child Development Center volunteers are needed to be a part of the STEAM Team at East Side, a new collaboration between East Side’s Northeast Child Development Center and its Vital Living program. STEAM Team members are part of an intergenerational project in which volunteers from the Vital Living program will spend time with the preschoolers and engage with them in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) activities. Volunteers come in as their schedule allows, for 30-45 minutes, to share art, music, storytelling, or science activities and experiences. Info: VitalLiving@esns.org or 612-787-4104.
Vital Fitness, Tuesdays, 10:30-11:30 am, seniors meet in the gymnasium for a variety of exercises that improve balance, strength, and coordination. First time participants are always welcome to the free classes. Info: 612-787-4086 or VitalLiving@esns.org.
