Tree Trust, the St. Paul non-profit that provides job training and landscape services, finished the delivery part of its annual tree sale, distributing more than 2,000 potted young trees to Minneapolis property owners. The trees had been chosen and paid for ($30 each for up to three trees) online in late August through September and on Friday through Sunday, Oct. 11-13, hundreds of cars lined up on 18th Avenue NE near the entrance to the parking lot of the Jim Lupient Water Park, 1520 Johnson St. NE.
Tree Trust staff members and volunteers helped the new tree owners stuff the potted trees (most of them between four and eight feet high) into their car trunks and pickup beds as they drove through the lot.
Dozens of species trees were available, from serviceberry to blue beech to red oak. Tree recipients also received bags of mulch and booklets on tree care. By the end of the sale, fewer than 100 trees were left. Karen Zumach, Tree Trust’s Director of Community Forestry, said the majority of the trees that weren’t picked up will be planted in areas around Minneapolis through their Green Zone tree planting projects or donated to community groups working within the City of Minneapolis.
