A grass fire was reported around 2:30 p.m. March 21 near the entrance to Silverwood Park. Heidi Sawyer, who was visiting the park, took photos of the scene. “I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a prescribed burn, since no one was monitoring it when I first noticed it,” Sawyer told the Northeaster. The St. Anthony Village Fire Department responded around 3:30 p.m., along with the St. Anthony Police Department and New Brighton Department of Public Safety. Crews contained the fire and prevented it from spreading into the surrounding area. County Road E, which runs along the northern edge of the park, was temporarily closed to allow crews to work and reopened after the fire was extinguished. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. (Heidi Sawyer)
