Over the noon hour on February 5, a lone figure blew the melody of “America the Beautiful” near the middle of the 2800 block of Johnson Street NE. Passersby paused their activity and listened to flugelhorn player Cindy Bach and her rendition of the patriotic tune. Bach has also played outside Recovery Bike Shop on Central and the Alex Pretti memorial on the 2600 block of Nicollet Avenue. “I was concerned about the crowds escalating, so I set up shop to practice and to be a calming influence.” (Davis Steen)
