Asylum ended for family
In March, a judge ended the asylum claims for Columbia Heights’ Ramos family. The family made international headlines after five-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken into detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents as part of Operation Metro Surge.
Attorney Danielle Molliver said their firm, Nwokocha & Operana Law Offices, is appealing the decision.
This follows a February motion filed by the federal government that was intended to end asylum claims for the Ramos family.

Riverfront trail to open
On March 17, the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board announced the opening of a new trail connection.
The connection, between Ole Olson Park and 26th Avenue N Overlook, will connect the Overlook to the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway, a 51-mile bike/walk trail that stretches through much of Minneapolis.
An email about the connection points out that “it will also connect to the off-street trail on 26th Avenue North, which travels across all of North Minneapolis between the Mississippi River and Theodore Wirth Regional Park.”
Once the site undergoes sufficient thawing, “other small items” will be completed for the project: Planting native plants, installing a drinking fountain and removing construction fencing.
At present, the trail connection is expected to open “over the spring.”
