Maya Cuisine reopens
On Feb. 9, Maya Cuisine, a taqueria and bar located at 1840 Central Ave. NE, reopened weeks after the business indefinitely closed. The business is now open Wednesday through Friday.
“Community has always been at the heart of what we do. We believe in staying connected, supporting one another, and creating spaces where people feel welcomed and safe,” the business wrote on social media. A portion of Maya Cuisine’s daily proceeds “will be donated to local schools and back into our community as we continue to navigate the current environment and invest in our community’s future.”

Pop-up teams with cocktail bar
On Feb. 4, Jook Sing, a Chinese-American pop-up founded by Mike Yuen and Tony Gau, announced a “long-term collaboration and creative partnership” with Steady Pour, a cocktail bar in Northeast Minneapolis, 2125 Hennepin Ave. NE. According to a press release, Jook Sing and Steady Pour will collaborate “to reinvent their food program while keeping Steady Pour’s identity front and center.”
“This isn’t a pop-up or a one-off,” said Jeff Seidenstricker, founder of Steady Pour. “It’s the next chapter of Steady Pour. Mike and Tony are joining us as creative leaders in the kitchen.”

Dispensary opens on Central
BlooMN Cannabis Co., a dispensary at 2518 Central Ave. NE, recently opened to the public.
The storefront sells a variety of CBD, edibles, vapes and apparel, THC-infused gummies and beverages, cannabis flower, pipes and accessories.
Barbecue site sold for $1.1 million
In early February, Soi Ho and his brother Quyen “Sam” Ha purchased the Market Bar-B-Que building, 210-216 Lowry Ave. NE. Market Bar-B-Que closed in September, which opened this location in 2019.
Ho and Ha plan to open Umami, a Chinese-Japanese restaurant, in three months.
Acupuncture business expands
Constellation Acupuncture, 2112 Broadway St. NE, recently expanded, adding a new classroom space in St. Anthony, 2817 Anthony Lane S.,
Suite 102. The business’ new dedicated classroom acts as space for “sliding scale healing events such as sound baths, group acupuncture, breathwork, and more,” according to an email from ownership. “Right now, when many of us are feeling extra stress and activated in our nervous systems, our neighbors need these healing spaces more than ever.”
Bar Oscar formally launches
Bar Oscar, 2512 Central Ave. NE, celebrated its formal opening on Tuesday, February 10. Mike Hoolihan and Jeff Luten, the bar’s co-owners, took over the business from Patty Grell, owner of Dutch Bar, last year. At that time, the bar, which serves wine, cocktails and small plates, was initially established as a pop-up.
