Minneapolis ups wages
On January 1, the Minneapolis minimum wage will rise to $16.37 hourly for all businesses. This change is a response to inflation. At present, the city’s minimum wage is $15.97 per hour.

Employees reach tentative agreement
19 months after being voluntarily recognized as a union under the UNITE HERE Local 17 Chapter, Indeed Brewing Company Employees have reached a tentative agreement on their first union contract.
The announcement, made by UNITE HERE Local 17, came hours ahead of what was supposed to be a vote by Indeed employees in the chapter to authorize a strike. Now, no such strike will occur.
In a statement, the union chapter said that they were “pleased to have secured a tentative first contract that delivers the meaningful improvements workers have been fighting for.”
The statement went on to say, “The agreement now moves to the workers for a full ratification vote, and we look forward to celebrating a finalized contract once members have had the chance to review and approve it.”
Previous barriers to a contract were whether Indeed would require workers to pay dues to UNITE HERE Local 17, overall wage increases and the structure and costs of health care.
Indeed Brewing’s labor movement is by no means the first for a craft brewery in the Twin Cities. In 2020, Fair State Brewing Cooperative became the first microbrewery in the nation to unionize. Surly Brewery workers fell short in their vote to unionize in 2021.
The Northeaster reached out to Indeed Brewing upper management for comment on the tentative agreement that was reached but has not heard back by the time of publication.
