Edison High School lockout

On the afternoon of January 13, at Thomas Edison High School, 700 22nd Ave. NE, school officials instituted a lockout, calling students who hadn’t yet boarded buses back inside.
“Enforcement vehicles were seen driving near our school and our city bus stops,” Eryn Warne wrote in an email to Edison families. After being ushered indoors, students were instructed to contact their families to arrange a ride home.
“This is a difficult moment for our community and we appreciate all the love and support,” Warne’s email continued.
“(ICE is) trying to be unpredictable, and schools are sacred places,” Senator Doron Clark told the Northeaster. “Students have been through a ton this year. They shouldn’t have to endure even the thought of this.”

David Pnafiel stood outside a business on Central Avenue and watched students protesting. “We have a big Hispanic community here and we need their help,” he said. “At this point, we’re not really sure if they’re doing due process or what (ICE are) doing with (abducted residents) … my daughter, who is eight, is not going to school, even though we are U.S. citizens.” (Mike Madison)
