In an effort to simplify access to its services, the City of Columbia Heights went live with a new library website on Nov. 1.
Previously, library patrons searching for materials or events specific to the Columbia Heights Public Library had to do so from within the Anoka County library website or via a city of Columbia Heights website link. The new Columbia Heights website allows users easier access to the city-owned library’s resources, said Renee Dougherty, library director.
Catalog searches on the new website still access the Anoka County Library database and allow users to place holds and search for materials across that system’s resources. Similarly, Anoka County website users can still access information to site-specific events at the Columbia Heights library.
In developing its own library website, Columbia Heights “is following suit of other public libraries in the state such as Fergus Falls or Stillwater,” said Will Rottler, communications and engagement coordinator with Columbia Heights.
Prominently displayed alongside the city logo at the top of the site’s homepage is a reminder that the Columbia Heights library is still “an associate of the Anoka County Library.”
Dougherty lauded the new site’s easier pathway to viewing the event programming available at the city’s library and noted the special importance this affords younger users, with fewer mouse clicks necessary to view the list of upcoming events.
