Construction of a new stormwater handling system at Columbia Park Golf Course means there will be temporary closures in the park, especially near the construction area. Look for them in upcoming months.
- Trail detour for pedestrians and bicyclists on northwest side of golf course for the duration of project (until August 2021)
- Pedestrian detour: 5th Street NE and 35th Avenue NE sidewalks
- Bicycle detour: Use 5th Street and Columbia Parkway (cyclists may use full lane)
- Columbia Golf Course will temporarily lose seven holes, going from 18 to 11 holes through August 2021 (remaining holes will be reopened as turf is reestablished).
- Tree replacement is included in restoration plan. The project design minimized impacts to mature trees.
- Changes will be made to the Columbia Golf Course cross-country skiing route in coordination with the Loppet Foundation. Updates will be posted on the MPRB website.
- No additional road closures are planned on 5th Street (now reopened) for the project duration. Expect to see construction vehicles on Columbia Parkway, 5th Street NE, and Central Avenue.
- The Columbia Park parking lot will close for the duration of project; it will be used as a construction staging area.
- The playground will also be closed for the duration of project, due to proximity to the construction area. After this project is complete, play equipment for younger children (on the north side of the path) will be replaced. Community members will be asked for input in fall 2021 and the playground will be rebuilt in spring 2022. Play equipment for older kids south of the path will remain.
- The Columbia picnic shelter rental and the multi-purpose athletic field will be closed through July 2021.
