If you’ve been mourning the loss of mortadella since the closure of Delmonico’s in Beltrami, take heart.
Husband and wife team, Nate and Monica Capone bring Italy to the St. Anthony Silver Lake Village Shopping Center (2700 39th Ave. NE) at Capone’s Italian Specialties. The market opened Oct. 2 and has a variety of imported dried goods, specialty oils and balsamic vinegars, fresh cheeses, and meats along with daily made-to-order sub sandwiches and salads to grab and go. In case you need another reason to visit, homemade raw meatballs and sausage from old family recipes are available and on weekends, braciole is made and sold on a first- come, first-served basis.
Nate Capone explained they decided to follow their dream for a couple of reasons. He grew up in Roseto, Penn., and worked at Ruggiero’s Market where he learned the trade. He said he missed walking into a family-owned Italian business “where you love the food and know the customers.” He also has a passion for good food and want to share it with others. ”It’s an extension of ourselves.” Some of Monica Capone’s family are chefs in the Twin Cities area so she learned the restaurant business from a young age.
Future plans include serving paninis, homemade pasta and a freezer that will have ravioli, gelato and Italian ice. Hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m.Tuesday-Friday, Saturday 12 p.m.-7 p.m. Sunday 12 p.m.-5 p. m. www.caponesitalianspecialties.com.
