Ramp jumping, hairpin turns and obstacle courses were all part of the action at this year’s Bike Rodeo, held on Saturday, June 14, at Logan Park.
The event was co-sponsored by the Logan Park Neighborhood Association and Pedal Power, bringing community, kids and cycling together for a fun-filled afternoon.
Now in its third year, the collaboration continues to thrive. The Bike Rodeo offers a hands-on opportunity for young riders to learn, play and build confidence on two wheels. Participants also enjoyed face painting, snacks and a bike raffle.
Pedal Power was founded in 2012 by Susan Tuck and Mark Trumper, two retired teachers who were inspired to act when they discovered that a third of their fourth-grade students did not know how to ride a bike. What began with just five bicycles has since grown into a fleet of 250 bikes situated across six schools — five in Northeast and one in South Minneapolis.
Each spring and fall, Pedal Power brings bike education directly to students, teaching basic maintenance, safety and riding skills. Trumper’s motto, “Ride to Learn,” captures the heart of the program: encouraging kids to discover their independence and explore their city on a bike.
If you’d like to bring Pedal Power to your event or support their mission, visit www.pedalpowermn.com. Pedal Power is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and donations help provide bikes, helmets and hands-on education to more kids across Minneapolis.
