Shimshock Memorial dedication
The Polish American Cultural Institute of Minnesota (PACIM) will dedicate a war memorial for Columbia Heights native Sgt. Walter Shimshock and the heroic B-17 Airlift Crew who sacrificed their lives in support of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. The wreath-laying and memorial dedication ceremony will take place Saturday, Sept. 21, at 12:45 pm at Huset Park, 530 Mill St. NE.

The congregation of Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church, 1509 27th Ave. NE, will celebrate the church's 110th anniversary Sunday, Sept. 22. This is the exact date that 110 years ago the charter members of GA signed the charter to start the church. A festive worship service at 9:30 am will be followed by a reception and a congregational photo. Historical artifacts will be on display as well.

Southern Anoka Community Assistance will distribute free produce in partnership with Second Harvest Heartland on the second and fourth Saturday of the month, July-September, 8:30-11 am (or while supplies last). SACA Thrift Store will host its first-ever fashion show, showcasing wedding, work wear, school fashion and Halloween outfits from the store. Models are volunteers and friends of SACA, including Columbia Heights Mayor Amáda Márquez Simula.
