In celebration of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge, the Columbia Heights Public Library and Mayor Amáda Márquez Simula will host a citywide book discussion of the novel “Flight Behavior” by Barbara Kingsolver. Sheridan Neighborhood Organization will hold its Annual Ice Cream 'SNOcial' Wednesday, August 4, 6-8 pm, at SNO Community Garden #2, 611 13th Ave NE. This free event includes Fletcher's ice cream, grilled food, community activities and discussions, and fun for the whole family. Larisa Netterlund, a resident of Audubon Park, brings live theatre back to Northeast August 5-15 as one of only a handful of indoor, in-person productions at Minnesota Fringe Festival. Channel is a ghost story, following a lighting designer (Elizabeth Efteland) working alone in the theatre. Theatrical designers have often been an afterthought as theatre companies have pivoted to virtual and outdoor productions over the past year. An art program utilizing West African symbols that connect to the larger diaspora will be held for teens and adults 13-24. Folks will be guided through a mixed media magical manifestation for and of the community to create work to be displayed.
