Santa on the Fire Truck
For over 25 years, the St. Anthony Fire Department has helped Santa and his reindeer collect for families in need. Once again we will drive down streets in St. Anthony to help spread holiday cheer. Acceptable donations for Toys for Tots: New, unwrapped toys, cash or check. Checks can be made out to “Toys for Tots." The count will take place Wednesday, Jan. 23, at sundown, and end at sunrise Thursday, Jan. 24. Locations throughout the county, including homeless shelters, city streets, and other known homeless encampments will be canvased in an attempt to interview people who are experiencing homelessness.

The East Minneapolis Exchange Club will hold its 2019 Youth Benefit Dinner on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 5:30-9 pm at Jax Cafe, 1928 University Avenue NE. Cost is $180 per couple and includes two dinners, two drinks and one entry for the $1,000 grand prize. A silent auction will be held. Anoka County 4-H will have a sale of gently used and new prom/formal dresses and accessories, Friday, Feb. 1, 6-9 pm, and Saturday, Feb. 2, 10 am-2 pm, at Bunker Hills Activities Center.

The Valley View Elementary Parent Teacher Organization in Columbia Heights is collecting new and used shoes in wearable condition, through March 8. Donated shoes are repurposed through micro-enterprises in developing countries, and each pair of shoes earns funds for Valley View Elementary School.
