DESCRIPTION:The Capri\,  2027 W. Broadway in North Minneapolis\, announced its fall season.\n\nWith Drawn Arms\, presented in partnership with the MSP Film Society and the Minnesota Historical Society.  The iconic image of Tommie Smith and John Carlos standing on the podium of the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City with their fists raised and their heads bowed has worldwide recognition. In this 2020 documentary\, filmmakers Glenn Kaino and Afshin Shahidi partner with Olympic Gold medalist Tommie Smith as he looks back 50 years to the moment that helped define a movement and changed the course of his life forever. Screenwriter David Grant will be at the Capri for the post-show conversation. All First Thursday Film tickets are $5 in advance at mspfilm.org\, or at the door\, and free for Northside residents. Sept. 1\,  7 p.m.\n Ain’t Misbehavin’\, opens Sept. 16\, 7 p.m. Stage North presents this three-time Tony award-winning musical revue through Sunday\, Oct. 9. The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and 1930s comes to life through the timeless music of Thomas “Fats” Waller\, including the memorable songs “Honeysuckle Rose\,” “Ain’t Misbehavin’\,” “Black and Blue\,” “This Joint is Jumpin’ ” and “I’ve Got a Feeling I’m Falling.” One of the most popular\, well-crafted revues of all time – sometimes sassy\, sometimes sultry – this play has moments of devastating beauty that are simply unforgettable. The first CCS3 adventure of the new season will be led by Minneapolis-based muralist\, illustrator\, and teaching and community engagement artist Briauna Williams.  A fun way for middle school scholars (grades 5–8) to get their hands into the arts. The free program\, including lunch\, is held from 10 am-2 pm. Advance registration is requested at thecapri.org \nThe Tragedy of Macbeth\, will be screened as October’s First Thursday Film\, Oct. 6 at 7 pm.  Based on the play by William Shakespeare\, from writer/director Joel Coen\, this film stars Denzel Washington\, Frances McDormand\, Corey Hawkins\, Brendan Gleeson\, and Harry Melling. Actor/Director Harry Waters\, Jr. will lead the post-show conversation. \nBroadway En Noir\, Saturday\, Oct. 15 at 7 pm\, another all-star season of Legends 13 crafted by Capri Artistic Director Dennis Spears. Also Sunday\, Oct. 16 at 3 pm. This opening program features music from historically Black Broadway musicals – from Cabin in the Sky to Dreamgirls and beyond. Single tickets ($25 each) and season passes ($80) are available now at  capri.simpletix.com.\n\nLove and Basketball\, Thursday\, Nov. 3\, 7 pm. In this 2000 film\, Monica (Sanaa Lathan) and Quincy (Omar Epps) love and play basketball together through many life challenges from childhood to adulthood. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and produced by Spike Lee\, it’s a story of the passion it takes to keep your dreams alive. John Wright\, Professor of African American & African Studies and English at the University of Minnesota\, will lead the post-show discussion.\n\nThe St. Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO) is back with the first concert of its Northside Series on Thursday\, Dec. 1 at 7:30 pm.\, Express Concert: Baroque Marvels with flutist Julia Bogorad-Kogan. This program of Baroque chamber music\, curated by Bogorad-Kogan\, includes works by Élisabeth-Claude Jacquet de La Guerre\, the first woman to compose opera in France\, and Isabella Leonarda\, whose musical talent was compared to the military prowess of Emperor Leopold I. The audience will discover their “marvelous” chamber music\, which was largely unknown for centuries\, alongside gems by more recognized Baroque composers Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann. Tickets are $15 for adults and free for Northsiders with reservations at thespco.org.\n The Capri will also host The SPCO’s xplOrchestra!
