DESCRIPTION:Read With an Animal: K-grade 5. Cuddle up with a certified therapy dog and practice reading aloud. Sign up when you arrive for a 15-minute slot. First come\, first served. Collaborator: PAWS to READ is a program of North Star Therapy Animals (NSTA). All handlers are required to be trained in an additional children’s reading program that focuses on utilizing registered therapy animals. Saturday\, June 6\, 1-2:30 pm. \nCoffee and Conversations: Join library staff and fellow patrons for relaxed conversation over coffee and tea. Feel free to bring a craft to work on\, book to read\, or game to play. Sponsor: Friends of the Hennepin County Library. Every 2nd Tuesday of the month\, starts June 9\, 10-11 am. \nStories Together: Pride: For children of all ages and their caregivers. Celebrate family and self-expression during Pride month through books\, stories\, rhymes\, music and movement. Stay for a Family Dance Party. Sponsor: Friends of the Hennepin County Library. The library will host a Story Stroll around the library\, weather permitting: Get ready for Pride with Robin Stevenson’s and Julie McLaughlin’s “Pride Puppy.” Stroll from page to page while reading this engaging story of a puppy lost at a Pride Parade. Come anytime between 10 am and 4 pm to read with your family. Saturday\, June 13\, 10:30-11:30 am. \nMinnesota to Maine: A Solo Bike Trip and What I Discovered: Former MN State Representative Tracy Beckman retired early to become a full-time caregiver for his wife\, Janel\, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. In the middle of his caregiving journey\, his family took over his duties\, giving him the time for a 60-day\, 1\,600-mile solo bike trip to Maine that gave him a new perspective on life. Tracy has been instrumental in leading several Alzheimer’s caregivers support groups. Saturday\, June 13\, 1:30-2:30 pm. \nCardboard Creations: Entering grade 1-6. Turn trash into treasure in this fun maker program for budding engineers\, architects\, and artists. You bring the creativity – the library will provide the materials. Drop in or stay the entire time. Optional: Donate your own recycled materials if you like. Wednesday\, June 24\, 1:30-3 pm. \nWearable Art: Entering grades 4-8. Participants will explore various shirt design techniques and create their own wearable masterpieces by painting (acrylic) or heat-pressing a custom design onto a shirt. Note: Youth will create original designs in the first 30-60 minutes. Those who arrive late can choose from a number of stencils. Materials provided. Collaborator: COMPAS Arts. Sponsor: MELSA (Metropolitan Library Service Agency). Thursday\, June 25\, 2-4 pm. \nLEGO® Lab: Calling all future engineers and architects! The library has got the bricks\, you bring your imagination. No experience necessary. Saturday\, June 27\, 2-4 pm. \nBring Your Own Book Club: Entering grades 2-7. Join other kids to talk about great books and make progress toward summer reading goals. Quiet reading time\, followed by group book discussion and a fun activity. Bring your own book or pick one of the library’s. No advanced registration is required. Sponsor: Friends of the Hennepin County Library. Tuesday\, June 23 & 30\, 2-3 pm. \nLlamas at the Library\nLounge and learn with the laid-back Carlson’s Llovable Llamas at the library. Sponsor: MELSA (Metropolitan Library Service Agency).
