DESCRIPTION:Plymouth Congregational Church\, Alliance Housing\, Inc.\, and Align Mpls join Hennepin History Museum in presenting two thought-provoking virtual events in April regarding housing inequities. \nA virtual panel discussion of local historians and housing experts will take place Thursday\, April 15\, 7-8:30 p.m. Taking its title from Chapter 11 of The Color of Law\, the panel discussion “Looking Back to Move Forward: The Housing Crisis” will discuss the historical roots of today’s housing crisis in the Twin Cities\, asking: How did we get here? and How can a shared understanding of history help us carve a better path forward? \nThe panel will be moderated by Chanda Smith Baker\, chief impact officer and senior vice president of the Minneapolis Foundation. Panelists will include Kirsten Delegard\, project director of the Mapping Prejudice Project; Denise Pike\, project manager of Minnesota Transform and co-lead of A Public History of 35W; Shannon Smith Jones\, executive director of Hope Community\, a Phillips Neighborhood community organization; David Hewitt\, director of the Office to End Homelessness\, Hennepin County; and Tyra Thomas of Street Voices of Change\, a group of people with personal experiences with homelessness who come together to build community and make positive change. The book is an account of how federal\, state\, and local policy explicitly segregated metropolitan areas nationwide. The program will include time for questions and answers.
