DESCRIPTION:It is an interesting thing to look at how seriously the art world takes itself. To address the critique that the art world takes itself too seriously\, Gallery 427\, Northrup King Building\, 1500 Jackson St. NE\, #427\, presents five artists: Heather Renaux\, Jocelyn Bullock\, Michaela Chorn\, James Powell\, and Darrell Hagan\, who consistently employ humor as an overt\, rather than a subtle or veiled strategy in their work. By using humor\, these artists can break down a viewer’s resistance\, perform an end-run around reason\, and create a receptive climate for the delivery of impassioned\, provocative\, or subversive messages. Opening reception: Saturday\, Jan. 21\, 7-10 p.m. Closing reception: Thursday\, Feb. 2\, 5-9 p.m. Show runs through Feb. 4.
