As final weeks are approaching in the Minneapolis City Council races, the Northeaster sought to clarify some of the more complex, innovative or controversial stands taken by Third Ward candidates as expressed in a September 6 forum hosted downtown by the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce. Four are running to replace Jacob Frey, who is running for mayor.
Ward 3 encompasses parts of downtown from the North Loop to U.S. Bank Stadium, as well as Southeast and Northeast neighborhoods along the river between Marcy Holmes and Bottineau. The Northeaster profiled candidates who announced earlier this year but recently sat down with those who remain. No candidates were given questions ahead of time. To access their platforms on other issues not covered here, consult the websites listed at the end of each.
The interviews are presented in alphabetical order.
The Northeast Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce cancelled their Third Ward forum that was scheduled for October 11, due to a venue booking conflict, and they have no plans to re-schedule. An arts-related forum was scheduled for Oct. 16 after this paper went to print.
