Donald Gullickson was voted Prince of Gentlemen and Kindness and knighted by St. Paul Winter Carnival Royalty January 24, at Johanna Shores in Arden Hills. Don and his wife Blossom Gullickson lived in St. Anthony since 1958, where they and their children were active in school and community organizations and events, including the St. Anthony Civic Orchestra and St. Anthony Sister City Association.
Eight Johanna Shores residents, two per floor, were honored as prince or princess on January 24 in this 12th year of the Johanna Shores Winter Carnival event. The honors are voted on by staff, residents and families of residents. The ceremony included Prince of the East Wind Duane Tessmer with the Knighting Pillow that belongs to Boreas Rex LXXX, the Sword touching each shoulder by Prince of the North Wind Joe Gallagher and pinning each with the medal of honor by Queen Alyssa Sigafus.
The Prince and Princess titles given by Johanna Shores are: 1st floor: Elvera McLean “Ellie” Princess of Trivia and Daniel Wiersma, Prince of Memories. 2nd floor: Truman Jeffers “Jeff,” Prince of Music and Goldie Witte, Princess of Dance. 3rd floor: Myrtle Klosowski, Princess of “Yay” and Donald Gullickson, Prince of Gentlemen and Kindness. 4th floor: Luella Ness, Princess of Biking with Heels and Jim Hanes, Prince of Engineering. 91-year-old Crystal (Johnson) Cardinal, also a resident, was also honored as she was the Winter Carnival Princess in 1949.
