Mississippi Valley Orchestra at First Lutheran

The Mississippi Valley Orchestra will perform a free concert, “Let the Spirit Sing!,” Sunday, Feb. 26, at 3 p.m., at First Lutheran Church, 1555 40th Ave. NE. Directed by Artistic Director Brian Dowdy, the concert will feature the Chorus Polaris under John Hoffacker, the University of Minnesota Campus Singers Maroon, under Beth Romey, and the winner of the St. Paul Piano Competition, Daniel Stein.
The orchestra will perform Beethoven’s “Egmont Overture”, Coleridge-Taylor’s “Danse Negre” from African Suite, and Copland’s “Variations on a Shaker Melody”. The choirs and orchestra will perform Michael Tippet’s Selections from “A Child of our Time”, and Sibelius’ “Finlandia”, featuring soloists Abigail Martin, Yun Kyong Lee, Joshua Diaz, and Jeffrey Martin. And phenomenal young musician Daniel Stein will perform the Schumann Piano Concerto in A Minor. There will be a silent auction with many wonderful gift items.
