Alexandra House volunteer training
August 17 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Alexandra House will hold its biannual volunteer training Sept. 5-28, with a mandatory information session Thursday, Aug. 17, 5:30-7 p.m. Community members can learn critical skills for working with victims/survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence, and abuse in later life, to work in a shelter, as a hospital advocates, or as a childcare provider.
Ten individual training sessions cover topics that range from legal matters to the specific needs of survivors and their families. Interactive workshops, guest speakers, and the most current research help prepare volunteers for the sensitive nature of this work and hone appropriate responses to crisis.
Along with a desire to help Anoka County families, an ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, heightened cultural awareness, and an ability to maintain confidentiality. Candidates must be older than 18, have a valid Driver’s License, pass a background check, be able to make a one-year commitment, and attend meetings and trainings as needed.
